Most Murmurs become louder with Passive leg raising

Two Exceptions

  • Systolic murmur of HOCM – which usually becomes
    much soft
  • Murmur of MVP – which soften

Murmurs with Passive leg raising – Passive leg raising usually produces the same results as squatting


Positional changes:

Standing

Most murmurs diminish

  1. Murmur of HOCM becomes louder
  2. Murmur of MVP – lengthens and often is intensified

Squatting

  1. Most murmurs become louder
  2. But HOCM and MVP usually soften
